This Master of Information Technology (MIT) program aims at producing responsible, innovative and creative graduates with skills in planning, organizing, designing and managing variety of ICT-based solutions to different kind of organizations.

This programme is carried out to prepare the workforce by strengthening the managerial skills and competencies in computerised technical know-how, improving managerial capability in handling information management in business organisations, producing knowledge workers who will be the future leaders in the nation’s progress and enhancing analytical skills and problem-solving capability in handling current issues in computer related management. The courses offered in this programme will be expected to produce graduates, whom are knowledgeable in the field of technology as well as sensitive to new ideas and environment, social issues and human values.

Through this programme, Open University Malaysia (OUM) is able to contribute meaningfully towards professional workforce, especially in the number of qualified Master of Information Technology graduates. This programme will also be able to add to the need of the workforce that is very necessary now and in time to come, such as Network Solutions Manager / Engineer, Wireless Broadband Engineer, Architect / Developer IT Network Applications, Telecommunications Software Developer, Data Networking Expert.

  1. What are the entry requirements for this programme?
    Normal Entry
    A Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 2.75; OR
    A Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment process; OR
    A Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent, with CGPA less than 2.50, with a minimum of 5 years working experience in a relevant field may be accepted.
    For candidates without Computing Degree, prerequisite modules in computing must be offered to adequately prepare them for their advanced study.
  2. Can I join MIT with just my Diploma certificate?
    Yes, you can. Through the flexible entry of APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning) not only can working adults gain admission into OUM by leveraging on their prior learning experiences, they can also use their experiences to earn credits in order to shorten their study duration.

    • Pass the APEL Assessment (Aptitude Test, Portfolio & Interview) conducted by OUM; AND

  3. I do not have Diploma / Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Information Systems, what do I need to do?
    For the MIT programme, a bachelor’s degree in any field is accepted. For candidates without Computing Degree, one prerequisite module in computing is offered in your first semester of study, to adequately prepare you for MIT. This course is Fundamentals of ICT. Once you have passed the course, you can take the MIT courses.
  4. The MIT programme is offered as a part-time or full-time programme at OUM?
    All OUM programmes offered in Malaysia are run in part-time mode, making them suitable for working adults seeking to upgrade their qualifications and skills in Information Technology, without having to give up their jobs or compromise on their life responsibilities.

  5. When should I join the MIT programme?
    OUM has three intakes in a year, January, May and September.

  6. What is the assessment like for the MIT programme?
    Most of the courses have assignment and final exams. The pre-requisite courses, research methodology and project papers are 100% assignment-based.

  8. Do I need to attend the tutorials, how many times do I need to attend?
    For the MIT programme, it is offered as a fully online programme as well as blended mode.
    For the online mode, you can follow the OUM programme from anywhere in Malaysia, at your own pace, with your peers in our myInspire portal, with the guidance of your e-tutor. For this mode, you do not need to attend any of the face-to-face tutorials or seminars.
    The blended mode refers to the combination of online study and face-to-face tutorials/seminars. Face-to-face seminars are offered only at the OUM Graduate School (OUMGC) at Kelana Jaya Learning Center. You will attend eight hours in total for each blended mode courses in a semester (2 hours x 4 seminars).
  9. Do I need to purchase any textbooks?
    All core learning materials in the form of e-books/modules are provided to you as a student. We also have an extensive digital collection in our Tan Sri Dr. Abdullah Sanusi Digital Library (TSDAS DL).

    You may also pursue your PhD in Information Technology, and this programme is also offered at OUM.
