Sibu Learning Centre Holds Annual Dinner

Two senior citizens were feted at the Sibu Learning Centre’s Annual Dinner on 30 December 2022. Bakar Ak Sebau, 66, a retired deputy superintendent of police, and Tang Tung Khiing, 70, a retired civil servant, received special prizes for lifelong learning as recognition for students in the senior citizen category. They received their prizes from Prof Dr Ahmad Izanee Awang, OUM President and Vice-Chancellor, who was the guest of honour at the dinner.

Themed as a Fun Nite, the dinner at the Kingwood Hotel Sibu was aimed at celebrating Sibu LC graduates who had successfully completed their studies this year. It was attended by students, alumni, staff and various other guests. Personalities of note were Ahli bin Chikba, Sibu’s District Education Officer, and Wesley Dugu, who represented YB Nicholas Kudi Jantai, the state assemblyman for Baleh, Sarawak.

In welcoming everyone to the dinner, Sibu LC Director, Joshua Mariyam Duum, thanked YB Nicholas for donating in support of the event. He also thanked other sponsors for their contributions.

Prof Izanee delivered an inspiring speech, in which he urged the students to do their best to complete their studies. He also encouraged the alumni to upgrade themselves to the next level of qualification.

Apart from the speeches, there were lively song and dance performances, including a ngajat dance, which is believed to have been performed by Iban warriors upon their return from battles.

There were also lucky draws, a karaoke session, a surprise birthday celebration, and a King and Queen of the Night quest.
