Overview
The Master of Psychology (MPSY) programme by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) at Open University Malaysia is designed to elevate academic and professional growth in the field of psychology. This programme cultivates advanced knowledge, critical thinking, and research capability through a flexible and engaging postgraduate learning experience.
Learners will gain exposure to core psychological principles and contemporary issues relevant across diverse settings. The curriculum encourages exploration, analysis, and evaluation of real-world challenges through a scientific lens. Communication, decision-making, and analytical reasoning are strengthened throughout the learning journey.
OUM’s learner-centered model supports academic advancement at a manageable pace, ideal for working adults seeking to deepen psychological understanding or pursue future academic and career aspirations.
The Master of Psychology (MPSY) is a two (2) year or six (6) semester programme comprising 41 credit hours, delivered through coursework and a research project. Candidates may enrol in up to three (3) courses per semester. In the final stage of the programme, candidates are required to complete a research project and submit a Master’s Project report.
Classes are conducted online, scheduled after working hours or on weekends to accommodate working adults. Each course includes 10 interactive online sessions per semester via Google Meet or e-Tutorial. Learning is further supported with structured references, digital materials, and e-lessons accessible through the MyINSPIRE platform. Active participation in online discussion forums on MyINSPIRE is highly encouraged to enrich the learning experience.
Prerequisite Courses
Candidates who hold a Bachelor’s degree (non-psychology, MQF Level 6) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and wish to pursue the Master of Psychology (MPSY) at OUM are required to complete 45 credit hours of prerequisite modules in Psychology.

Each course is equivalent to 3 credit hours, and upon successful completion, learners will receive a certificate. Completion of all 45 credit hours fulfils the entry requirement and equips non-psychology graduates with essential foundational knowledge in psychology.

The Master of Psychology programme is offered in 6 semesters with a total of 41 credits, consisting of 6 core courses with 2 sets of specialisations courses (I/O Psychology and Educational Psychology).
