CSR U-Care Programme Reaches Out to the Visually Impaired Community

Kuala Lumpur, 22 November 2025 – The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) successfully organised a CSR initiative titled “Menyantuni Cahaya Hati,” a community outreach programme dedicated to supporting individuals with visual impairments. Held at the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) Complex in Brickfields, the event was led by programme director Dr Wan Mohammad Ubaidillah Wan Abas.

The programme aimed to foster public awareness, build empathy and provide learning opportunities for visually impaired participants through talks, interactive sessions and the distribution of essential equipment. Its core objectives included offering moral support, strengthening social responsibility, creating meaningful interaction between sighted individuals and the visually impaired, and implementing empowerment-focused activities.

A total of 100 participants took part, comprising 40 visually impaired trainees from Gurney Training Centre (GTC), 24 FSSH members, 10 OUM alumni volunteers, photographers, protocol officers, MAB staff and accompanying aides.

Activities began with registration followed by a blindfold walk to a café, where participants experienced navigating and dining while blindfolded. This activity offered sighted participants a deeper sense of empathy towards the daily challenges faced by the visually impaired community. A briefing on the proper Sighted Guide Technique by Cikgu Zaiful Hadi equipped attendees with practical knowledge on assisting visually impaired individuals.

The highlight of the day was the “Menyantuni Cahaya Hati” forum, which featured meaningful reflections and personal sharing from academics, counsellors and visually impaired individuals. The “Aku Boleh” group activity further encouraged self-confidence and communication skills, with four groups guided by facilitators from both FSSH and GTC.

A blindfolded computer competition involving participants from OUM and GTC added an emotional dimension to the event, offering sighted contestants a first-hand experience of the challenges of navigating technology without vision.

The programme concluded with a closing ceremony and the presentation of contributions, which included audio books, Braille Qurans, white canes and basic necessities. The donations brought joy to the MAB and GTC community, marking the event as a meaningful and impactful CSR effort.
