Dr Tuan Fatma is an academic with a legal background, holding a PhD in Law from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UnisZA), where her study focused on the governance structure of open and distance learning institutions in Malaysia. Her field of expertise includes commercial and business law, company law, and corporate governance. She also holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours (LLB (Hons)), and a Master of Comparative Laws from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

At present, Dr Tuan Fatma is an Associate Professor at OUM, having started her academic career at the University in 2005 as a lecturer. She has also held several administrative positions, including Programme Director for Diploma in Management and Master in Human Resource Management.

Her appointments as Vice Dean for Assessment, Vice Dean for Learning Materials, and Vice Dean for Operations at the OUM Business School from 2013 to 2017 and as the Director of the Centre for Quality Assurance further demonstrated her leadership.

She had taught at the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, IIUM, before joining OUM full-time. To gain practical legal experience, she had completed her chambering and worked as a legal assistant at Kadir, Andri Aidham & Partners from 2000 to 2002.  

Dr Tuan Fatma also holds professional qualifications whereby she is the Advocate and Solicitor (non-practising), Lead Auditor from SIRIM, and Certified Officer of Quality Assurance for Higher Education (Tiers 1 to 3) certifications from the Malaysian Qualification Agency.
