FBM leads campus-wide e-waste collection campaign

PETALING JAYA: The Faculty of Business and Management (FBM) launched an e-waste collection campaign on 17 December 2025, to promote environmental responsibility and sustainable technology use within the university community.

The campaign, themed From Waste to Worth, is led by FBM in partnership with Tech Waste Recycling Malaysia and addresses the growing challenge of electronic waste, one of Malaysia’s fastest-rising environmental challenges. It will run until mid-January 2026.

FBM Dean Assoc Prof Dr Zahir Osman said the initiative reflects a shared responsibility to protect the environment, beyond any single faculty or department.

“Although FBM proposed this initiative, I hope and believe that each and every one of us plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success of greening our Earth,” he said at the launch.

He added that the campaign provides a practical platform for staff and students to turn sustainability awareness into meaningful action.

Vice-President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Research) Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohd Tajudin Md Ninggal noted that the lifespan of electronic devices is becoming increasingly shorter, making responsible disposal essential to reduce long-term environmental harm.

The campaign invites the OUM community to contribute unused electronic items such as smartphones, computers, tablets, power banks, and other gadgets. A dedicated e-waste collection bin has been placed at Menara OUM for the duration of the campaign.

OUM expressed its appreciation to Tech Waste Recycling Malaysia for the collaboration and to FBM for leading the initiative, which reaffirms the university’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
