KUALA TERENGGANU: While juggling his studies, work commitments and caring for his ailing parents, Muhammad Fakhrurazi Yahaya has added another major accolade to his name.
The Bachelor of Teaching (Primary Education) with Honours student emerged champion at the Al-Quran Recital and Memorisation Event for ASEAN Higher Educational Institutions 2025/2026.
The competition, held at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNISZA) here, drew participants from higher education institutions across the ASEAN region. Muhammad Fakhrurazi competed in the demanding 1-30 Juz’ memorisation category, widely regarded as one of the most challenging segments.
After advancing through the preliminary round on 24 Oct 2025, he secured a place among the top 10 finalists. In the final on 14 Feb, he delivered an exceptional performance, scoring 98.30% to clinch the championship title.
For Muhammad Fakhrurazi, the Qur’an represents a lifelong trust and sacred responsibility that calls for discipline and firm commitment. His preparation was guided by experienced teachers as well as his father, a dedicated Qur’an teacher.
This latest triumph builds on an already distinguished record. In 2023, Muhammad Fakhrurazi represented Terengganu at the national level, where he secured first place. Later that same year, he went on to represent Malaysia in Saudi Arabia, competing in the 1–15 Juz’ category.
He is now set to represent Malaysia once again under the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) at an international Qur’an memorisation competition organised by the Government of Jordan in March.
His achievement is a source of pride and inspiration for the OUM community.
