Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Management

Overview

DOSHM is a part-time, blended Open & Distance Learning (ODL) programme designed for working adults who want recognised OSH qualifications with flexible study. Across 10 semesters (90 credits), learner will study the essentials of safety, health, and environment including legislation and standards, OSH management systems, risk management, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, emergency response, and accident investigation supported by related foundation courses in statistics, chemistry, physics, human anatomy, and psychology. Learning culminates in a substantial Industrial Training placement (12 credits) covering practical competencies such as legal compliance, OSH MS, emergency planning, and HIRARC, with a case study and report.

FAQ #4:What are the entry requirement for Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Management (DOSHM)?
Answer:

Mode 1: Normal Entry

i.        Possess Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent with pass in English at SPM level and THREE CREDITS in the following subjects*:

    • Mathematics and
    • ONE Science subject (Biology/Physics/Chemistry/General Science) and
    • Any other ONE subject

OR

ii.        Possess Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 3 /Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) Level 3 in the relevant field (note: The HEPs need to conduct specific sreening and guidance related to the field of the program for the students); OR

iii.        A Certificate (Level 3, MQF) in a relevant field with a least CGPA of 2.00*; OR

iv.        A pass in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with at least Grade C (GP 2.0) in any subject*; OR

v.        A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with at least Grade Maqbul*;OR

vi.        Other relevant equivalent qualifications recognised by the Malaysian Government.

a)    Additional requirement for iii – v: A pass in English AND credit in Mathematics and ONE Science subject (Biology/Physics/Chemistry/ General Science) at SPM level or equivalent qualifications

Possess an APEL.A certificate from MQA for admission into Diploma programmes.

FAQ #5:How soon can I complete DOSHM program?
Answer:DOSHM is 90 credit-hour programme, which means that it can typically be completed in 10 semesters. That`s approximately 3 years and 6 months if the programme is completed without any credit transfer, and if learners take the standard 3 courses per semester path.
FAQ #6:What is the mode of teaching delivery for DOSHM program?
Answer:

Fully online mode means that you can follow an OUM programme from anywhere in Malaysia, at your own pace and alongside your online peers, with the guidance of your e-tutor. In this mode, you need not attend face-to-face tutorials or seminars, unless you want or are able to. Each course consists of 8 e-tutorials session/semester (1 hrs e-tutorials/ session).

This flexibility of modes is a specialty of OUM, the first open and distance learning university in Malaysia. It is particularly suitable for self-directed adult learners who want to upgrade their skills and qualifications on a part-time basis without having to give up work and another life commitment.

FAQ #7:When can I join DOSHM?
Answer:DOSHM program have intakes in the January, May and September semesters.
FAQ #8:Who are the academic staff responsible for delivering DOSHM program?
Answer:DOSHM program at OUM are delivered by a qualified and experienced subject-matter experts and tutors/facilitators with degrees from reputable universities.
FAQ #9:Does DOSHM program have been accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Accreditation (MQA) and Public Service Department (JPA)?
Answer:DOSHM program have been fully accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Accreditation (MQA), and have been accredited and commended by Public Service Department (JPA).
FAQ #10:Are course materials provided by OUM?
Answer:All core learning materials are provided or made available for library loan. They include specially-commissioned course modules, e-textbooks, study guides, reading bricks, AV files, CDs and/or DVDs. Learners may also use OUM`s physical and digital libraries to access a wide range of learning materials.
FAQ #11:How will I be assessed should I enrol for DOSHM program?
Answer:For DOSHM program, assessment methods vary from course to course. Most courses have assignments and final exams, and few courses also consist of the practical and lab sessions.
FAQ #12:How much does it cost to pursue DOSHM program at OUM?
Answer:The total fees for DOSHM program is RM15, 4780. All fees are subject to revision without prior notice.
FAQ #13:Can I apply for a PTPTN loan if I want to pursue DOSHM?
