Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Management

DOSHM program are uniquely different from other diploma program in OSH offered elsewhere because:

1. There were an APEL entry options for those who want to continue their study into DOSHM program but having no previous formal educational certificates like diploma, STPM, foundation, A-Level etc.

2. By using your previous working experiences, you can enroll into DOSHM program.

3. The total fees of DOSHM program is the lowest among the other institutions which offered the same diploma program.

4. DOSHM mode of study is so flexible especially for those working adult which seeking to upgrade their qualifications, knowledge and skills without having to give up their jobs or compromise on their life responsibilities.

DOSHM courses (90 credits) comprise:

Compulsory MPU Courses (12 credits): Learning Skills for Open and Distance Learners; Falsafah dan Isu Semasa 1, Integriti dan Antirasuah 1, Entrepreneurship 1, Kokurikulum.

Core Courses (66 credits): Elementary Statistics, Industrial Chemistry, Industrial Psychology, Human, Anatomy and Physiology , Applied Physics, Related Legislation and Standards, Ergonomics, OSH Risk Management, Occupational Health, OSH Management System, Introduction to Facility Management, Introductory Organisational Behaviour, Industrial Toxicology, Occupational Safety Industrial Hygiene, Accident Investigation, Process Safety Management, OSH Professional Ethics and Communication, Ventilation System, Integrated Waste Management, Occupational Economics, Emergency Preparedness and Response

Core: Industrial Training (12 credits)

Mode 1: Normal Entry

i.        Possess Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent with pass in English at SPM level and THREE CREDITS in the following subjects*:

• • Mathematics and
  • ONE Science subject (Biology/Physics/Chemistry/General Science) and
  • Any other ONE subject

OR

ii.        Possess Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 3 /Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) Level 3 in the relevant field (note: The HEPs need to conduct specific sreening and guidance related to the field of the program for the students); OR

iii.        A Certificate (Level 3, MQF) in a relevant field with a least CGPA of 2.00*; OR

iv.        A pass in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with at least Grade C (GP 2.0) in any subject*; OR

v.        A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with at least Grade Maqbul*;OR

vi.        Other relevant equivalent qualifications recognised by the Malaysian Government.

Notes:

a)    Additional requirement for iii – v: A pass in English AND credit in Mathematics and ONE Science subject (Biology/Physics/Chemistry/ General Science) at SPM level or equivalent qualifications

(Refer to the notes (*) below this table).

b)   English Competency Requirement (International Student) : Achieve a minimum Band 3 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) OR equivalent to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) (High B1)***.

Mode 2: Flexible/ APEL Entry

Possess an APEL.A certificate from MQA for admission into Diploma programmes.

Fully online mode means that you can follow an OUM programme from anywhere in Malaysia, at your own pace and alongside your online peers, with the guidance of your e-tutor. In this mode, you need not attend face-to-face tutorials or seminars, unless you want or are able to. Each course consists of 8 e-tutorials session/semester (1 hrs e-tutorials/ session).

This flexibility of modes is a specialty of OUM, the first open and distance learning university in Malaysia. It is particularly suitable for self-directed adult learners who want to upgrade their skills and qualifications on a part-time basis without having to give up work and another life commitment.
