June 2026 proved to be a rewarding month for OUM’s Faculty of Technology & Applied Sciences (FTAS), marked by meaningful international engagement and recognition for innovation excellence.
Celebrating Malaysian Nurses Abroad
On 12 June, FTAS participated as a strategic partner in the Nurses Day 2026 Celebration organised by the Malaysian Nurses Community in Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with Melorita Healthcare (MELORITA), Komuniti Rakyat Malaysia Riyadh (KRMR), and Pertubuhan ALIF.
The event brought together 94 Malaysian nurses serving across Saudi Arabia, many of whom are current students and alumni of OUM’s nursing and postgraduate programmes.
Representing OUM was Assoc Prof Dr Raziana Che Aziz, Dean of FTAS, who delivered a special address and engaged in a dialogue session with students and alumni. Adding a personal touch to the celebration was a specially recorded message from OUM President/Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr Ahmad Izanee Awang, who expressed his appreciation and encouragement to OUM students and alumni serving in the healthcare sector abroad.
The event served as a meaningful platform to recognise the dedication, compassion, and professionalism of Malaysian nurses, while reinforcing OUM’s commitment to supporting lifelong learning opportunities for healthcare practitioners wherever they may be.
Innovation Excellence at UTM DIGITEX 2026
Just days later, FTAS celebrated another proud achievement when it secured both a gold medal and a silver medal at UTM DIGITEX 2026, a prestigious innovation competition organised by UTM’s Faculty of Computing.
The gold medal was awarded to Smart Remote Battery Management System with Predictive Maintenance, led by Ts Mohd Tajuzzaman Hassanor of FTAS, alongside Assoc Prof Dr Raziana and industry partners from Fajar View Sdn Bhd.
Meanwhile, SME-FINAI earned a silver medal for a multidisciplinary team led by Dr Noral Hidayah Alwi and Dr Noor Idayu Ismail from the Faculty of Business and Management, together with Encik Nur Hisyam Mohd Said from Group Digital Services.
Together, these achievements reflect OUM’s commitment to creating meaningful impact beyond the classroom. Whether through supporting Malaysian professionals abroad or developing innovative solutions to real-world challenges, FTAS continues to demonstrate how education, collaboration, and innovation can drive positive change.
Congratulations to all staff, alumni, researchers, and collaborators involved. Their achievements continue to strengthen OUM’s reputation as a university that transforms lives through learning while contributing meaningfully to communities and industries worldwide.
