OUM Shares ODL Expertise with Kenyans

A delegation from OUM took part in a Malaysia-Kenya Investment and Trade Mission from 11 to 18 March. The University was invited by the County Government of Bomet to discuss uplifting open and distance learning (ODL) in Kenya and the provision of ICT systems for Open University Kenya, which would be launched soon. The delegation was led by President/Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Ahmad Izanee Awang.

Besides meeting with high-level officials, there were presentations on OUM by Prof Izanee and Assoc Prof Dr Nantha Kumar Subramaniam, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Applied Sciences.

They were then invited to the Kenyan Ministry of Education to meet the Principal Secretary of Higher Education and Research, Honorary Dr Beatrice Muganda Inyangala. They discussed ODL initiatives in Kenya and assistance to establish Open University Kenya. This was followed by a visit to Nakuru, the capital city of Nakuru Country, to meet an ODL Technical Working Group to exchange ideas on the way forward in establishing the new open university.

The trip made it possible for OUM to share its expertise in providing ODL with counterparts in Africa, in line with its philosophy of democratising higher education.
