About Us

Welcome to OUM!

We are a private university owned by a consortium of Malaysia’s first 11 public universities, which gives us the unique advantage of leveraging on the prestige and expertise of our stakeholders to add value to our wide range of academic programmes.

Since our establishment, we strive to become the university of choice for part-time studies and provide quality and recognised programmes that emphasise accessibility, affordability and flexibility.

The Covid-19 pandemic that we are currently facing has been most challenging to many people and created new norms that we must embrace. The usual way that we do things has forever changed and we are now living in world where social distancing, constant hand washing and mask wearing are the new normal

In line with these changes, OUM has initiated fully online learning for all its programmes covering all teaching and learning activities, from registration to exams. Our learners need not worry about disruption to their studies as they can safely learn from the comfort of their own homes.

In 2021 and beyond, we will continue to embrace the digital revolution so that anyone, anywhere can study with us. Various new developments in teaching and learning are being explored to make learning even more flexible, enriching and suited to current demands.

If you choose to study at OUM, you will find that fees are affordable, programmes are career-relevant, accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and recognised by various professional bodies. Importantly, quality is at the forefront of everything that we do. If you think you don’t qualify for higher studies, fear not: APEL  will open the door for you.

Do explore our programmes and find out what we have to offer. We welcome all new learners to join us on this exciting journey, Together, we can make your higher education dreams a reality.

University Profile

In August 1999, the Minister of Education invited Multimedia Technology Enhancement Operations Sdn Bhd (METEOR), a consortium of 11 public universities in the country, to set up an open university.

This led to the establishment of OUM in August 2000 followed by its launch on 26 August 2002 by the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad. With the motto “University for All”, OUM believes in the democratisation of education, giving everyone a chance at self-actualisation and fulfilling their potential.

Shared Values

  • Integrity
  • Professionalism
  • Caring
  • Teamwork
  • Innovativeness

To be the Leading Provider of Flexible Learning

The OUM logo is derived from a combination of the letters “O” and “U”. These letters have been creatively styled in a round dynamic graphic form to express the concept of globalisation of knowledge through the open and distance learning (ODL) mode.

The University’s corporate colours of blue and silver portray a modern and progressive institution of higher learning. The slant in the logo illustrates the University’s continuous progress as one of the premier ODL universities in the world.

To widen access to quality education and provide lifelong learning opportunities by leveraging on technology, adopting flexible mode of learning, and providing a conducive and engaging learning environment at competitive and affordable cost.
