Programme Synopsis

Master of Facility Management of OUM is designed to train students in the area of fundamentals of facility management.  It prepares OUM graduates to be industry leaders who make decisions, solve strategic and operational problems, and implement best management practices in the built environment. FM is a multi-disciplinary profession that ensures functionality of the built environment by integrating people, place, process and technology.  FM is the total management that integrates all services to support the core business of an organisation. Recognising the need for change and focusing on the industry demand, Master of Facility Management programme is designed to meet the growing demand for professionals in the area of facility management.

SIRIM Certification:
The SIRIM Certified Facility Management System Manager (SIRIM CFMSM) certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the programme as per SIRIM requirements.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)

By the end of the programme students will able to:

  1. Acquire practical knowledge in facility management and business management skills in solving organization real problems.
  2. Manage innovatively, creatively, ethically and professionally the core business needs as well as staffing and facilities in ensuring business continuity.
  3. Communicate effectively with industry players and demonstrate quality leadership skills and teamwork in solving facility management problems.
  4. Attain entrepreneurial skills in managing organization facilities and recognise the need of lifelong learning for successful career advancement related to facility management.

Programme Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this program, students should be able to:

  1. Apply the advanced theory and knowledge of facility management in managing organisation facilities to fulfill the core business needs;
  2. Apply theories and concepts in the decision-making process in the business industries;
  3. Advance their knowledge in the understanding of business management, effective organisation management through professionalism decision making, values and responsibilities skills related to facility management in the workplace;
  4. Apply the advanced skills of the strategic facility management to solve and mitigate facility management problems through effective communication, leadership and team skills to improve the productivity of company assets and facilities;
  5. Demonstrate the skills and principles of lifelong learning in their academic and career development; and
  6. Conduct research with minimal supervision and adhere to legal, ethical and professional practices related to various types of facility management services.

Kemasukan Biasa

a) Ijazah Sarjana Muda dengan minimum PNGK 2.50 daripada 4.0, atau kelayakan yang setara dengannya, seperti yang diluluskan oleh Senat PPT;

b) Ijazah Sarjana Muda yang tidak mencapai PNGK 2.50 daripada 4.0, atau kelayakan yang setara dengannya, boleh diterima masuk tertakluk kepada minimum 5 tahun pengalaman kerja dalam bidang berkaitan;

Kemasukan APEL

  • Warganegara Malaysia; DAN
  • Calon hendaklah berumur 30 tahun dan ke atas pada tahun permohonan dibuat; DAN
  • Mempunyai pengalaman bekerja/pengalaman pembelajaran terdahulu yang berkaitan; DAN
  • Lulus Penilaian APEL bagi Sarjana (yang dikendalikan oleh OUM); DAN
  • Memiliki kelayakan seperti berikut:
    • STPM / Diploma yang diiktiraf; Atau
    • Matrikulasi / Asasi / Foundation (nilai kredit 50-52 kredit ; nilai gred PNGK 2.00 dan ke atas ; tempoh pengajian sekurang-kurangnya setahun) ; Atau
    • A-Level (jumlah kursus minimum 3 ; nilai gred minimum E ; tempoh pengajian sekurang-kurangnya 18 bulan) ; Atau
    • International Baccalaureate Diploma (jumlah kursus minimum 6 kumpulan kursus dan 3 elemen wajib ; nilai gred minimum 24 point dan ke atas ; tempoh pengajian sekurang-kurangnya 2 tahun).

Pelajar Antarabangsa
Pelajar Antarabangsa dikehendaki mencapai skor minimum 6.0 bagi International English Language Testing System (IELTS) atau yang setaraf dengannya.

Normal Entry
a)    A Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA of 2.50 out of 4.00, or its equivalent qualifications as accepted by the HEP Senate;

OR

b)    A Bachelor’s degree with CGPA below 2.50 out of 4.00, or its equivalent qualifications can be accepted, subject to a minimum of 5 years of working experience in relevant field;

OR

APEL entry

  • Malaysian; AND
  • The candidate should be more than 30 years of age in the year of application; AND
  • Relevant work experience / prior experiential learning; AND
  • Pass the APEL Assessment (Aptitude Test, Portfolio & Interview) conducted by OUM; AND
  • Possess the following qualification:
    • STPM / Recognised Diploma; Or
    • Matriculation / Foundation (credit score 50-52 credits; CGPA grade 2.00 and above; minimum study period of one year); Or
    • A-Level (minimum of 3 courses; minimum grade E; duration of study at least 18 months); Or
    • International Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 6 courses and 3 required elements; minimum grade of 24 points and above; duration of study at least 2 years).

International Students
International Students are required to achieve a minimum score of 6.0 for International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or its equivalent.

  1. The provisional offer of admission will be revoked if the candidate:
    1. Fails to submit evidence of qualification within the stipulated date; or
    2. Does not meet the entry requirements of the University.
  2. Entry requirements are subject to change as stipulated by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency.

Discount for the Physically Challenged Learners (OKU) and Senior Citizens

The University offers 50% discount for:

  • Senior citizens aged 60 and above on registration date; and
  • Physically challenged learners – a valid Orang Kelainan Upaya (OKU) is required.

These discounts are for subject fees only and are not applicable for research and other fees. The discounts are also not valid for second time registration and repeating of subjects.

Learners who receive this discount are not entitled to other discounts and promotions.

Re-registration fee of RM220 per semester is chargeable for extension of Masters Projects

  4. What is the uniqueness of the programme?
    Realigning the content with the current industry demand, we have a collaboration with SIRIM to offer additional certification to the learners who enrol in this programme. A certificate of Recognition SIRIM Certified Facility Management System Manager (SIRIM CFMSM) will be issued to MFM learners after successful completing and passing the assessment for the modules based on SIRIM requirements.
    The objectives of the certification:

    • To provide professional recognition to individuals who have satisfactorily completed the certification.
    • To train and build up local expertise in quality practices in order to meet the demand from industries.

  5. Can you explain further on the SIRIM certification granted to learners upon completion of the programme?
    SIRIM CFMSM Certified Facility Management System Manager is a certification designed to equip the graduating master students with knowledge and skills in Facility Management System as an added value upon their graduations. The knowledge and skills are valuable in ensuring them to stay competitive and able to meet challenges and demand in facility management industries in quality area.

  6. What are the entry requirements for MFM?
              Normal Entry

    • A Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA of 2.50 out of 4.00, or its equivalent qualifications as accepted by the HEP Senate; OR
    • A Bachelor’s degree with CGPA below 2.50 out of 4.00, or its equivalent qualifications can be accepted, subject to a minimum of 5 years of working experience in relevant field;OR

  7. What is the mode of teaching for the programme?
    MFM is a taught course program (Part-time for 2 years) where you are encouraged to attend the e-tutorial sessions conducted using video conferencing via Google Meet (10 sessions@10 hours per course) by E-Facilitator.
    You will also be supported with the forum discussion under the learning platform (MyInspire) assisted by the e- facilitator. Assignment and modules will be uploaded in your MyInspire course.
    You are recommended to register for 2 courses per semester.
    You are required to submit assignments through online and sit for the take home final examination through online submission. Some of the courses will have fully coursework (Case Studies and Research method).
