Diploma in Management (DIM) programme aims to produce knowledgeable and competent graduates who are able to perform effectively, efficiently and ethically within areas of management

The Diploma in Management is designed to cater to the needs of those seeking a career in management at the sub-professional level. Graduates are expected to be able to serve in business and non-business organisations. In order to qualify for the diploma, a minimum of 90 credit hours of approved courses is required.

Of these, 78 credit hours are prescribed while the remaining 12 credit hours (equivalent to 4 courses) are to be chosen from the respective area of concentration.

Currently, the Diploma in Management programme allows learners the option to specialise in;

  • Human Resource Management,
  • Retailing,
  • Plantation Management
  • General Management.

  1. What is the purpose of OUM in offering DIM Program?
    The Diploma in Management is designed to cater to the needs of those seeking a career in management at the sub-professional level. Graduates are expected to be able to serve in business and non-business organisations. In order to qualify for the diploma, a minimum of 90 credit hours of approved courses is required.
  2. How can I enrol into DIM?
    There are two ways to enrol:

    • Normal Entry:
      • SPM* or equivalent with minimum 3 credits; or
      • Pass STPM or equivalent with minimum Grade C (GP 2.00) in any subject; or
      • Pass STAM with minimum grade of Maqbul; or
      • Pass SKM Level 3 in related field; AND
        • SPM* with minimum a credit in 1 subject; AND
        • Through consolidation programs (if necessary) or
      • Pass certificate (MQF Level 3) or equivalent; or
      • Pass UEC with minimum Grade B in 3 subjects; or
      • Pass O-Level with minimum Grade C in 3 subjects; or
      • Pass Community College Certificate equivalent to MQF Level 3 in related field; AND
        • SPM* with minimum a credit in 1 subject; AND
        • Through consolidation programs (if necessary) or
        • Other recognised equivalent qualifications.
          English language competency requirements for international students: Minimum IELTS 5.0 or equivalent
          SPM* = means passing SPM with at least a pass in Bahasa Melayu and History.
    • APEL Entry:
      You may apply to join DIM via the APEL route which takes into account your previous work and learning experience. You must fulfil the following requirements:

      • Malaysian; and Must be 20 years old and above in the year of application being made; and
      • Have previous working experience/learning relevant to the field applied; and
      • Pass APEL Assessment for Diploma

  3. Is DIM offered in full-time or part-time mode?
    All OUM programmes offered in Malaysia are run in part-time mode, making them particularly suitable for working adults seeking to upgrade their qualifications, knowledge and skills without having to give up their jobs or compromise on their life responsibilities.
  4. What are the courses offered under DIM?
    The courses offered under DIM can be classified into 4 categories:

    • MPU Courses (4 courses);
    • University Courses (5 courses);
    • Core Courses (18 courses); and
    • Major Courses (4 courses)
  5. What are the Majoring/Specialisation offered by DIM?
    Currently, the Diploma in Management programme allows learners the option to specialise in;

  6. How soon can I complete DIM?
    DIM is a 90 credit-hour programme, which means that it can typically be completed in 10 semesters. That’s approximately 3 years and 1 Semester if the programme is completed without any APEL C, and if learners take the standard 3 courses per semester path.
  7. How is DIM delivered?
    DIM is run in blended as well as online modes.Online mode means that you can follow an OUM programme from anywhere in Malaysia, at your own pace and alongside your online peers, with the guidance of your e-tutor. In this mode, you need not attend face-to-face tutorials or seminars, unless you want or are able to.
    Blended mode refers to a combination of online study and face-to-face tutorials/seminars. Face-to-face tutorials are supplementary, and useful only to those who need them and are offered at OUM Learning Centres.
    This flexibility of modes is a specialty of OUM, the first open and distance learning university in Malaysia. It is particularly suitable for self-directed adult learners who want to upgrade their skills and qualifications on a part-time basis without having to give up work and other life commitments.
  8. When can I join DIM?
    DIM programme has intakes in the January, May and September semesters every year.
